TRM has inmates on holiday who are scared to move further south due to the weather. But sadly they cannot rely on the forecasts any more.
Compare the South Island scenery with Turangi’s weather:The official forecast was Turangi is experiencing a chilly and damp day with light rain, overcast skies, and temperatures hovering around 12°C for a high and dropping to around 6°C overnight.
We appreciate many prefer not to provide their photos as they do not want you to know… Our most recent photo evidence is in the photos of lower Tongariro River on a cold winter day with TRM inmates, Pete and his guide from the Naki below:

Compare weather further sout (We realise this is so unfair.)
A single slow‑moving winter system has flooded Dunedin’s CBD and Taieri, cut highways around Otago and Clutha, dropped blizzard‑level snow over Central Otago and the Queenstown–Wānaka ski routes, and is now shifting its heaviest rain and sou’east gales into Canterbury, Marlborough and the lower North Island.
A red heavy rain warning is in effect for Kaikōura, with up to 400mm of rain expected. Severe weather will cause significant flooding, slips, and dangerous river conditions. Residents and travellers should avoid unnecessary travel, as heavy rain and possible snow are disrupting local highways.
The Wairarapa South Coast is currently under a Heavy Rain Watch and a Strong Wind Watch. Expect periods of heavy rain easing to isolated showers in the afternoon, strong southerly winds, and daytime high temperatures near 13° C that will feel considerably colder due to the wind chill.
This is one of those weeks where every trip – from a city commute to a Cook Strait crossing – needs a forecast and an NZTA check first.
But visitors on holiday continue to rely on TV1’s forecast and are misled too often.
They are also misled about the size of Tongariro trout:

TRM are booked out until Sunday. It must be the weather…
