Friendly fantails have been regular visitors to TRM every summer. The above photo was taken back in 2008. Then the message was passed on down the family tree about the regular supply of tiny spiders at their favourite cafe. This has been repeated year after year. That is SWMBO’s excuse for not dusting up in the rafters too often – she does not want to disrupt the tiny world of insect bird food up there. Photo below was the 2017 generation.

We could tell they had to be the same family as they flew in to always perch on the same light cord to survey the latest offering. I am sure you can spot the close family likeness. They always have a friendly chat with me to thank us for maintaining our spider breeding colony before they zoom around to amaze and entertain us with their aerobatic skills. They will never realise how much they always cheer us up. Below is the 2025 great-great-great-grandchild on their favourite family perch yesterday and back again this morning (to provide an update on where the trout are waiting).
