TRM were delighted to receive the following letter from the father of the bridge anglers, whose fishing story has been the biggest online tourist hit for Turangi. You will note he asked that their identities be disguised by blurring their faces. Sadly, my computer skills are still limited to only posting these reports. As I do not know how to blur them, they were “decapitated” instead. It is a shame as I would have loved to show their expressions of joy.
“Hi Ross,
I hope you are doing well.
It’s (Name deleted for security purposes). These are my kids, F and A. I am a PhD marketing researcher at AUT and work in the security sector to run the family. Me and my kids love fishing. Kids been fishing snappers in salt water but recently developed craze for trouts and fly fishing. I have paid for the Taupo fishing license. I had limited budget to handle travel fuel, accommodation and gear cost. I could buy only one fly rod for both kids and also to teach them sharing. They end up breaking it. They started looking at fish from the bridge but I didn’t realised they hanged the line from the bridge. As soon as I saw that. I called them off the bridge. But I still apologise for their act. I will teach them to follow the rules.

I would request you to blur their faces in the photo you posted on Facebook to avoid any unnecessary trouble.

Tell Dad that if he needs it, he also won a free accommodation package for a two-bedroom unit for the weekend.
(There is no need to thank us as I am sure DOC – the managers of the Taupo fishery who are supposed to promote the fishing – will want to reimburse TRM for all the free publicity you have given Turangi and the Tongariro River trout fishing.)
