The government coalition gave the council three months to submit proposals for the most radical reform of local government in three decades, to merge authorities and ditch regional councillors. Wonderful long overdue reforms.

RMA Reform Minister announced the Head Start pathway at Parliament as a fast-track option for councils eager to start reforms now.

As Toe Paw is traditionally slow and does not know how to react, TRM inmates have asked us to “head start’ the reform now.

WHY? An example of why: Above is Taupo’s misleading promotional photo. Look how they abused Turangi‘s reputation – located in the immediate centre with Taupo hidden somewhere in the distant haze.

Compare the above signage of how Turangi is presented… They just do not care. This was on SH1!

The aim is to reinstate Turangi to where it should have been before the last amalgamation that left it as a distant detached suburb of Toe Paw. It needs to reclaim her tourist identity at the southern end of Lake Taupo by amalgamating with the other tourist orientated towns on the central plateau. Instead of being a distant suburb of Toe Paw she will rise to be rechristianized as their tourist jewel in the crown.

The international reputation as the trout-fishing capital of the world will be reinstated immediately.

The wonderful riverside village will be reinvented as “Taupahi” – the correct historical name before the Ministry of Works arrived…
