Actually, TRM is supposed to be a motel. True, although some inmates may not believe it.
Sometimes it has been known to fail as a motel as it graduates to more of a geriatric trout fishing club.
A daily blog is somehow produced from the laundry for several reasons – to promote the trout fishing on the Tongariro River and for obvious reasons to keep fishos focused on TRM.
It may have started as simply a subtle means of persuasive advertising over the net but morphed into much more with facebook, etc. As such it is very popular – to the point where some inmates email us if they have not had their daily fix by 10 am. Wonderful.
Isn’t this modern technology quite remarkable for communicating?. But it does create problems too…
That may be partly TRM’s fault as we often promote other quirky causes and diverse issues when the fishing is slow – i.e. Tongariro River Trail, T2T (Taupo to Turangi bike trail), bio-security, other rivers, 1080, clean water, Turangi’s hidden secrets – Turangi’s lost museum and hidden underground power station, Great NZ Trek, DoC (Department of Conservation manage the Taupo Fishery), gardening, the meaning of life, Taupo District Council, pollution, toxic water, destroyed trout environment, Waikato Regional Council, Tongariro Crossing issues, Genesis (The power company that controls river flows on the Tongariro and at Lake O), to name just a few.
TRM Daily Reports and facebook have commented on other seemingly remote (commercial?) related issues after inmates have consistently praised (or complained!) them – such as Whakapapa skiing, Didymo CCD, All Blacks, Rafting NZ, Sporting Life, Turangi Tavern, local fishing guides, West Islanders, Tongariro National Park walking tracks, etc.
Some may even suggest we have been known to get carried away on certain controversial and sensitive issues… SWMBO calls them honest investigative reports.
Sometimes, reluctantly, TRM has even had to be critical to pass on strong opinions from BOF’s (after regular attendance at “club” meetings some inmates get promoted to BOF’s – Boring Old Farts). But all these ‘other’ issues have created some confusion.
At some stage have to draw a line in the sand – and that is the reason for this blog….
Recently TRM have been politely asked or strongly requested to advertise related products and promote many other causes from political messages (apparently for the rest of NZ this is election year ?) to safety, health, environmental, religious messages and other miscellaneous issues.
TRM’s Management, SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed is the real power plant behind these blogs so complain to Her) might agree with the causes but has to draw the line somewhere to ensure we do not go too far beyond our original intention.
It is nice to know others imagine people value the TRM Daily reports with a wider audience than just old fishos looking for cheap accommodation. It is scary that they might believe everything SWMBO claims is true and correct – yeah right! – so we need to gently remind readers of the original basic format…
It is simply a touristy website ‘blog’ to promote trout fishing on the Tongariro River.
It was never designed to be used for general advertising or as a commentary for everything else that is right and wrong in our society.
Sometimes it is hard to say “no” when we might agree with the gritty substance of the requests but we really need to stick to our knitting.
We get into enough trouble as it is. OK?

Lovely staff who were happy for us and our cats to stay at their motel. Everything was clean and tidy, but the best part was the queen sized bed in our unit (8). So many times I have stayed at motels with old soft beds that are so uncomfortable to sleep in, but not this time. That was the best sleep i have had at a motel in a very long time. A firm mattress folks, and it felt so good.
Room Tip: If you like a firm mattress, pick room 8

Two nights here – warm and comfy.
Very clean and well equipped. Our unit was amazingly quiet, considering it is close to the highway (but just a little off). Reasonable pricing, too.
Would definitely make this our first choice next time.

We stayed only one night, intending to do the Tongariro Crossing the following day.
The owners were so accommodating, and seemed like a lovely couple.
Something went wrong with the booking site we used, and somehow we ended up being booked for the wrong day entirely the next month. They were filling up, but found somewhere for us that night even though they weren’t expecting us ’til a month later.
They were full of advice and also took care to equip us with walking poles and Swandris as we were not properly equipped.
Will definitely stay there again next time we’re in the area!

This motel has very dated decor however it wasn’t an issue as I was here to enjoy the outdoors not the indoors. Another bonus each unit has a carport. Great location if wanting to do Tongariro River Trail. Awesome trail to bike. Definitely will be back very soon.
