Work on Tongariro River swingbridge started.

Access to the Major Jones Pool, the most popular fishing pool on the river, may be difficult for anglers, bikers and walkers. The existing bridge has been blocked off from 20 April at the eastern end for construction of the replacement bridge. The Major Jones Pool could still be accessed from the Northern SH 1 end, but that would require walking past Judges’ Pool, which may be too much to ask. The popular 3 km circuit at the northern end of the Tongariro Trail may be blocked off until construction is finished.

Someone’s dog did not read the instructions…

The larger new bridge will be 70 m long with a deck width of 1.25m.
