Thank you to everyone who has replied to the blog about the two kids fishing off the Tongariro SH1 Bridge. DOC (Department of Conservation) is the Taupo Fishery Manager and will appreciate your opinions. We were delighted with the comments we received, so we have added a few more from yesterday.
But we have a reason. These replies show that while the vast majority enjoy these posts, a few always take exception in the ugliest way. Between Fb and TRM’s editor, we managed to delete most, but as some still sneak through, they deserve an explanatory response.
The negative responses started a little campaign back in July, when we ran aground with the local Maori Trust Board after showing a 14-year-old photo of the local meeting house on TRM’s blog. When we couldn’t explain who gave permission, they were so upset that ugly reviews appeared on the TRM website as some sort of revenge. We expect anyone reading these would realise that five misleading, rude comments sent within a 24-hour period had to be an orchestrated, jacked-up “hate TRM” effort.
That was followed up by more negative comments to TRM posts, claiming we had sneaky politically racist messages filtering through the fishing updates and culminated with claims that I had been stalking the boys with ill intent. True! Sorry, I deleted them before you could read their filth. After posting Tongariro tourist fishing reports for over 20 years, totalling over 5,000 reports, a tiny group suddenly decided we were politically and racially and sexually driven. Unbelievable!
In TRM’s reply, we agreed with them, of course. There was no point in arguing with such mentally sick, vindictive bigots. We sought professional advice from TRM’s lifestyle consultant. SWMBO advised that it’s wiser to ignore them.
Fortunately, the vast bulk of our regular viewers are of a superior class, ranked above the usual rank and file. This group are called “fishermen”. Anyone with a fly-fishing passion naturally understands the positive traits in other people, appreciates the beauty of what Turangi has to offer, and knows how the rest of the world works.
TRM also understands that to provide so many informative blogs for so long, we will inevitably step on a few toes. We cannot please everyone. That is why we’re pleased to share some of the latest unbiased comments from other viewers.

kids will be kids, look at their role models or take them out fly fishing showing them how to really enjoy the sport

Feeding their whanau should be encouraged not looked down apon..at least they are not tagging the town breaking things or stealing and i would be more then happy to buy them a fishing license and find them some rods..

The sweet taste of freshly caught rainbow and brown trout when we were kids .didn’t have rods or use licences back in the early 80’s ,good on ya kids .

I can remember when I was a kid poaching trout , got caught finally, had rod confiscated, bsck in the early sixties!got sorted no big deal
