Apologies for late report… Suddenly without warning this morning I was hired to start a new career as a fishing guide. There was an unfortunate mix-up with dates. I discovered the inmate sitting outside his unit all ready to rumble at 6.30 am this morning, waiting for his guide. So realising the mistake I dropped everything and forgot your report. However this email from PW was timely as that is where I took my ‘client’. And this is what I wanted to report…
The Tongariro has not recovered from the brown sand/silt/pumice/ash that was released from the upper river during the last fresh. It has covered everything and the trout are not too happy about it. The anglers aren’t either. As for the fishing guides – they are really annoyed. So we would suggest this might take a little while to clear. We noticed a few splashy rises down river but otherwise there was still too much suspended mud colour to sight fish at all. The client – far more experienced than his rookie guide – realised this too and fortunately for me he called it quits. After such a stellar career I have now retired after 6 hours as a fishing guide…
