Enjoying the fabulous summer weather on the banks of the Tongariro above are three ‘cool’ young ladies holding a ‘ladies only’ sunshine meeting in their exclusive picnic retreat. They are Ruby-Jean Ellis from Sydney, West Island, Phern Ellis from Perth in Western West Island, and Siodin Ellis from Turangi, North Island. At bottom you can see why their venue is so private and exclusive…

Above is Fiona & Phil Shaw from Johnsonville (near Wellington) about to go biking the Tongariro River Trail – mainly so that Phil can do some trout spotting to decide where all the trout are hiding.
Then on right is a family from USA – CJ Lim, Tim Lim, Tania Lim & Mark Yeo about to leave to bike around the Tongariro River Trail loop up to Red Hut and back down the other side. The photo was taken at about 8 pm and they still returned before dark.
The next photo is an angler seen casting into lower Bridge Pool TLB on Monday afternoon.
If you recognise him could you mention that the Tongariro is really restricted for fly fishing only. He would hate to lose his spinning rod…
Perhaps he may need to apply for a Resource Consent…
Last below is another “Trout Bum” – Jim Rowland from Philadelphia – after six weeks at TRM he was still plucking them out of the upper river pools. He leaves today for the South Island part of his fishing trip and will return to the Tongariro in March.
Also enjoying the Tongariro River for the first time, guided by Jim above, was Martin Monk from Kent – still adjusting his casting style to provide for giant fluffy indicators and flinging heavy bombs.
And last – how’s this for discovering your own private picnic spot above the Island Pool? I always wondered what that phone box was for? To avoid infringements and prosecution, for a change of use they might need to apply for a resource consent too?
