Tongariro River swingbridge update

To keep balance, this week the photos are on the east (TRB) side.  Last week they were all on the western town side.

First, apologies if TRM’s last report confused bridge watchers.  Local residents are taking a close interest in progress.

The photos above illustrate how the construction team are providing their own daily progress notice. Most appreciated, very informative, but we use the photos to explain it.

Last week, the report explained the cantilevered construction method from the eastern side, from the Justice Department farm.  Some readers took from this that the new bridge would be of cantilevered construction.

The team have confirmed the new bridge will be of very similar construction style to the existing swing bridge.  The main visual improvement will be a higher-level deck and ramps to provide easier access than steps.

The groundwork has required the removal of some mature native trees, but the thinning out of the scrubby stuff was needed anyway.
