As the summer approaches the popularity of the TRM bikes for a 2 hour circuit increases.
There are several choices of route from 3 km up to 13 km.
The special charm of this bike trail is the diversity of landscape varying from a popular riverside walk with views over the Tongariro River and Lake Taupo at the northern end, to native bush with everything from majestic mature Beech trees to fern gullies at the southern end, two swing bridges across the Tongariro River, etc.
Another popular stop-off rest spot is the Trout Centre.
Trout can be spotted in classic Tongariro pools from several elevated look-outs.
The track contour is easy and suitable for all manner of bikes. You do not have to own a mountain bike to complete it.
Many angling inmates also use the bikes to get around more pools – particularly along the TRB to the ‘difficult too far to walk to’ pools like Cattle Rustlers, Stag, Sly Grog Pool, Silly Pool, etc. – with less effort to considerably enhance their fishing experience.
