Lake Taupo is home to some of NZ’s largest and wildest brown trout. Fishing these waters is an opportunity not to be missed. Brown trout are spawning in the summer months and the Lower Tongariro becomes home to hundreds of large fish, sometimes pushing well over the 10-pound trophy mark.

EPIC RIVER – BIG ADVENTURE FISHING MOHAKA RIVER RAFT-FISHING
FROM OCTOBER – APRIL
Get one up on the locals – The Mohaka River is one of New Zealand’s most majestic and wild rivers and has superb trout fishing. It is not as well known as the Tongariro River but it certainly delivers and is worth a look. We start early to get you fishing, so to make the most of what will prove to be an epic day. Fly fishing by raft on this river includes dramatic backdrops as we float through many plentiful fishing pools. The Mohaka River is a superb option if coming from the Hawkesbay or Taupo. The river is very passive so can cater for all ages and abilities.
BIG BROWN & RAINBOW TROUT FISHING WHAKAPAPA RIVER RAFT-FISHING
FROM OCTOBER – MARCH (DEPENDENT ON WATER LEVELS)
Whakapapa River fishing trips are a true gem, especially by river raft. The Whakapapa River is one of the most stunning rivers which flows from our local volcanoes and boasts amazing brown/rainbow trout fishing and some of the most impressive scenery! Both rainbow and brown trout grow to huge sizes in this river and some big-number days can be achieved by a competent angler. All styles of trout fishing will be productive here but as it is a fairly deep-flowing river we generally use nymphing to target these Wiley trout. Not considered an ‘easy’ river to fish, it is recommended to choose our “Guided” option, to ensure you get as many opportunities as possible to hook one of these wild beasts which are known for their extra-strong fighting strength and their ability to escape even the most experienced of anglers.
