Andrew Hart brought his family all the way from Scotland, to take his son Ru & daughter Corrie trout fishing the mighty Tongariro.
Ruaraidh had been fishing here before but only as an ‘observer’ watching from being perched on his father’s shoulders about ten years ago – see images below.
Just as well they were guided by Richard Mowforth as the river flooded and was flowing about three to four times normal flow and all their plans had to be changed due to limited access.
The images confirm how the Tongariro River can still be successfully fished at high tide. The photos tell their story… make sure you scroll all the way down to compare images taken during their first visit to the Tongariro in 2007.

What a great holiday.
Family day out on “Loch” Taupo with Whiskery Mike –
Dad, Andrew Hart with son, Ruadraidh & daughter, Chaorainn (“Gaelic” spelling) pleased with their catch.
Above 2017 , on right back to 2007
(Ruaraidh was 3 and Corrie was 2)….
On left 2017, on right 2007…
That was how Andrew enthusiastically introduced his son to fly fishing the Hydro Pool – learning casting skills from his shoulders… How could he not learn?
Note minimum size Taupo trout back then was 45 cm.
What delightful guests and what wonderful lasting memories the photos provide.
