Can Turangi be economically independent?

Another sneaky preview peek at how Turangi will become wealthy as an economically independent republic (?) when the new boundaries are allocated… For any new town, the finances are so important.

The first question is to find a reliable source of wealth that can not just survive, but thrive. This precedent has been tested successfully all over the world by the orange-tinted MAGA luminary. He simply increased tariffs. So simple. So effective.

Please note this information is classified and confidential. TRM viewers are exempted to tell one person at a time.

Fortunately, we do not need to mine for oil or gold or coal. Turangi has something far more valuable and precious for the next ten thousand years. It is also provided at no cost. Turangi’s economy has a much better, more sustainable wealth base by imposing a tiny wee tariff on the most precious commodity in the world.

WATER!

From the moment the new order is established, Turangi’s precious Tongariro River water will be assessed at the same low cost per litre as that charged to Auckland’s Watercare, plus a similar additional annual payment of $2 Million towards river restoration.

The purity of the snow-melt Turangi water cannot be achieved anywhere else. It cannot be overstated and must be reflected in any assessment. Comparatively, the Auckland Watercare product is relatively diluted and polluted after travelling over 300 km past other towns, collecting their wastewater, and being trashed by turbines in eight other old hydro power stations en route. So a Tongariro tariff at the same low cost per litre must be a bargain. We love JAFA’s. They are so wealthy, they just spent $billions on an underground rail tunnel leading nowhere.

A Tongariro tariff reaffirms the Watercare decision below – that anyone using the river water as a resource must consider the river first. Watercare take up to 300 million litres of water per day. It is past the time they paid at the source.

Seems perfectly simple and reasonable… Otherwise it is illogical. How could anyone justify Waikato raking in zillions of dollars by selling hundreds of millions of litres of our water?

More focus on the river with Watercare decision

The decision to allow Auckland’s Watercare to take additional water from the Waikato River for the next 20 years will also mean more resources to improve the wellbeing of the river.

A specially established Board of Inquiry called to consider the matter, decided that Watercare can take up to 300 million litres of water a day from the Waikato River to supply Auckland. The Waikato River Authority opposed taking additional water from the river.

Waikato River Authority Iwi Co-Chair says while it is disappointing the consent has been approved by the Board of Inquiry, the decision reaffirms that those using the river as a resource must put the river first.

The Board of Inquiry decision was clear that any Waikato River resource users must provide betterment for the river rather than just seek to mitigate any effects that a resource activity may have on the river.

The Board of Inquiry decision also requires Auckland’s Watercare to make an annual payment of $2 million towards river restoration. The payment will be administered by the Waikato River Authority as part of its annual funding and allocated, on a contestable basis, to restoration projects within the Waikato River catchment.

Did you know that the residential properties in Turangi do not pay water rates. The water is FREE as a bribe or a token of appreciation for how the hydro scheme stuffed up our main rivers, needing canals, tunnels, roads, and even an underground power station in a protected National Park. They would never get consent in these more enlightened days.

Better still, if the new town charges a tariff for its water, there will be no charge to residents for property rates at all. Imagine the savings. That is how good this option is.

Did you know the Tongariro River was once called the Waikato? Then the Upper Waikato. The confusion almost reignited inter-tribal warfare. Petitions of protest were sent to the Prime Minister. True! The name was in contention for many years and was subject to political shenanigans. Read TRM’s next blog tomorrow for the fascinating history.
