2025 Tongariro Release Dates!

15 & 16th Feb*
26 & 27th Apr
20 & 21st Sept

Saturday releases are Poutū (A10) and Sunday releases are Rangipō (A14).

Tongariro River anglers are only concerned with the Poutu release on Saturday. Usually the flow will increase by about 100%. Sunday from Rangipo release is for mad canoeists.

*For February releases: Due to NZTA road closures there will be no access between Rangipō Road and Waiouru. Paddlers will need to divert around the western side of the mountains via the newly named town of Waimarino (National Park). Access will be as normal from Tūrangi heading south to the river.
