After every kids day at the Trout Centre TRM always get guests with young families inquiring and commenting that if only they had known… Too late. The following feed back from the Trout Centre after the kids day last Wednesday confirms what a wonderful facility this is for introducing kids to trout fishing and all the other environmental concerns like Didymo awareness, etc.
Trout Centre Update:
It was a great day on Wednesday, fine weather and happy children and parents.
188 fish were caught by 185 children, with lots of fish over a kilogram and a few over 1.5 kilograms, so thank you one and all for a great effort.
It was good to see DOC involved with their Whio and Didymo displays, and Krysia with the Scavenger Hunt.
A special thank you to the DOC staff who manned the smoker and Arthur who spent all day filleting the fish, not the most glamorous of jobs but a very important one! As always they are the last to finish.
Keeping the parents behind the chain worked well as did having the fish station numbers on the fence, so will carry on doing that. (there were no complaints about this from the parents.)
We had 23 volunteers on the day which was a great turnout.
The next public fish out is:
Sunday 23rd October – Labour weekend,
Not sure yet if we will be running the smoker, this depends on how many volunteers are available.
Kind Regards
