Photos today are misleading. That is Maggie Cadogan with two brown trout from Lake O. Carefully note the date – 20 April 2008. OK? The photos evidence is to indicate the Lake O season is not over yet.

TRM inmates have generally had a frustrating week at Lake O with little to report. Lake O had just reopened after being closed off in February. The cold wind added to the problems of lake weed and unusual flow conditions. We blamed global warming.

The river fishos were doing much better, so to mislead even further, see the photo below of Paddy Walsh with his latest trophy brown from the lower Tongariro River. He had just collected it on Thursday.

It does happen now and then when some anglers do very well and others struggle. One regular TRM inmate from UK returns today after a week’s frustration. He fished as far away as the Waitahanui and left this morning with only two landed in a week. Generally, it was a strange week with everyone reporting in with totally different conflicting stories, running hot and cold, different fishing methods, different flies, different approaches, but generally frustrating for the first week of February.

Meanwhile, others patiently persevered and eventually were rewarded. That is why they deserve their fishy mug shots.

Maggie won TRM’s prize for the best result. After struggling earlier in the week, with Robbie’s help she landed 9 yesterday on Lake O. Nothing huge in size but compensated by so many.

Paddy’s photo is also included as he sneaked back home with 17 superb conditioned fresh run silver trout from the Tongariro River, including one huge brown about the same size as the mounted version.
