SWMBO should apologise. After about 13 years of TRM Daily Reports there is one very important local facility that has never been mentioned on TRM reports. Turangi residents are spoilt in so many ways.
The Turangi library is a superb modern well managed favourite place for many locals in such a small community. Some might consider the faciliites are almost overkill until you consider it serves a much larger catchment from all the smaller villages along the eastern side of Lake Taupo – Waitetoko, Te Rangiita, Oruatua, Motuoapa, Korehe, and from the southern end of the lake at Whareroa, Kuratau, Omori, and Pukawa.
For many local residents it is the heart and soul of Turangi culture plus an important social focal point. It provides the perfect learning environment. We cannot help but be so impressed to see all the local kids waiting for the computers. It is very busy on cold days for locals to find somewhere warm to relax and learn.
Check out the wonderful feature display of fishing books – for freshwater fishing. This again confirms Turangi’s place as the Trout Fishing Capital of the World. We would suggest this would have to be the largest selection of trout fishing books in any library in NZ.
But even more important in the Turangi Library is the wonderful friendly helpful highly respected knowledgeable staff. What a great team. Many thanks to them for this display to promote the Tongariro trout fishing.
So next time the river is flooded and unfishable then trot along to the library, located at the end of the shopping mall, and have a browse.
