Turangi is a perfect equinine environment

Exercising the herd in the lower Tongariro River in January 2016

For a change from trout pics, over the last 16 years TRM blogs have included many other local images to illustrate how important horses still are in small town heartland NZ. They add so much local character to our rural environment, that is sadly lost in cities.

The images above and below show some older pics but the two kids in the latest photo trotting along SH1 with their minders has to win the “cuteness cool-as” prize.

Local pony club out for their Sunday ride July 2020

We feel sorry for city kids who have no idea what they are missing – a big weekend trip for them is a shopping mall. These lucky girls (cavalry jockey training starts young for future polo cross champions?) are Rayray riding Elsa on left and Kaia riding Milly on right. The miniature horses were not even as high as the pumice fence. The enthusiastic thumbs up confirm their approval…

Cavalry head off down SH1 (now 60 kmph limit) with minders including their dog.
(Thumbs up and thank you to Rayray & Kaia for patiently waiting while I found my camera)
