Another trophy trout story…

Kerwin Bickers from Napier was thrilled with his first Rainbow trout. His grandfather Peter Thompson had heard about an attractive little hidden scenic lake surrounded by the native bush known only to a few trout anglers (aka Tongariro Trout Centre) where his trout was waiting. He tells us he was casting to some of the bigger trophy-sized trout but this monster beat them to his perfectly presented fly. Kerwin applied the art of playing the trout on a fly rod – a very different experience and much more exciting than Napier Snapper fishing. Then while they admired the museum exhibits and strolled around the river their monster trout was filleted and smoked to perfection for his dinner. What great memories. That is how school holidays should be…
