TRM Ladies Tornament

TRM’s inaugural Ladies Fishing Tournament wound up yesterday with the prize-giving ceremony strictly supervised by MC Didymo Dave.

These ladies proved to be very competitive so this was a serious business – as confirmed in the images below. Everyone voted the tournament a complete success and are already planning a similar event for 2020.

Rachel McNae won a set of waders.
Shirley Fraser won a fly rod and box of flies

In addition raffles and auctions were used to raise funds for the Ladies Commonwealth Fly Fishing team. Generous donations for prizes – such as boxes of flies were received from Sean Andrews (seanandrewsflyfishing.com), Didymo Dave with hundreds of flies, Silvereye Flies & Tackle (rich@silvereyeflies.com), an original water-colour by Doug Oldfield was raffled, a carton of fine wine distributed from Rod & Tackle in Taupo, a new set of waders from Sporting Life in Turangi, plus some of the participants brought additional prizes including another new set of waders, more boxes of flies, collectors items like fishing shirts from previous Commonwealth Competitions, etc. Tongariro River Motel donated other awards of fishing vests, fly rod and reel, and accommodation for a guided fishing weekend, etc.

Jude Guccione won the BIG prize from SWMBO – a weekend at TRM being guided by Richard for two days.
Suzie Fogo receiving the waders from Graham & Cathy Whyman from Sporting Life.
Box of deadly Tongariro nymphs donated by Sean Andrews

Everyone won something, although to get their prize they had to give DD a big hug, even if they didn’t land a trout. So the tournament participants have been very spoilt. For TRM it was so refreshing and encouraging to have a group of anglers who were determined to just enjoy themselves to the max. The fishing was just their excuse for a party.

If this type of ladies fishy tournament appeals to you then register now. Some happy contestants have already left names and contact numbers for next time. Their only condition is TRM have to make sure we get Richard (Two mountains fishing guides) back for more instruction (?). They all loved him… The total number for May or June 2020 has to be kept under 30 participants – otherwise Richard cannot possibly manage the tuition lessons and TRM cannot control them…. We should warn you, it was more like a fishy version of “Turangi’s Got Talent” or “Girls Can do Anything”. It will be a blast!
