SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed is the stroppy Manager of everything at TRM) was aghast when She discovered another Taupo fishing lodge was holding a fishing tournament which did not encourage women participants! She immediately decided TRM would hold a “Ladies only” tournament on the same weekend. In case you are tempted, the following provides helpful comparative analysis to make sure TRM can compete and beat the Taupo competition…

Their reluctance to encourage ladies is quite unbelievable in this day and age with all other sports recognising and now relishing their participation, with Black Ferns, etc. So SWMBO immediately decided to hold their inaugural ladies tournament on the same weekend 29, 30 & 31 August. Within an hour of announcing Her decision, six lovely ladies have signed up for a fun weekend.

Obviously, TRM cannot name the other “all male” tournament venue in case we promote them, so this report is just to show brief images of their fishing lodge when She last inspected it about 9 years ago. For example, in case you overlook it, the direct comparison to their bedrooms is that TRM’s units have more beds… But even She is prepared to admit the standards are slightly different. The main fishy advantages at TRM are closer river proximity, bigger trout and the ridiculously lower $ room rates.

These images are to illustrate what you will not find at TRM. OK? Otherwise you might imagine this report is really an “advertorial” for TRM? The photos are just to tease SWMBO and show prospective guests the relative standards of the other place that She will have to match… After suitable adjustment is made for the difference in room rates She, who is always completely unbiased, is convinced TRM has more to offer. She fully understands that a much better deal is necessary to entice lovely lady “angleresses”. SWMBO knows from experience at TRM that women are always so much more perceptive in selecting the best accommodation package deal.

Generally, in Turangi, the demand from anglers is primarily for competitively priced accommodation. There is a good reason why this is so important. TRM’s fishos stay far longer than tourists and keep coming back year after year. So it has to be very affordable. Indeed, TRM has regular inmates who have been returning several times annually for fortnight bookings for over forty years. No Taupo Lodge could match that level of loyalty. Ladies can expect much more wonderful friendly helpful knowledgeable inmates at TRM!

After reviewing $$$ room rates She is confident TRM can thoroughly beat them on that most important criteria. For sharing units the special discounted rate for the Ladies Weekend has been reduced to $35 per person per night. To improve on that anglers would have to stay at cheap back-packers camping ground accommodation with shared bathrooms and kitchens. At TRM every unit has full-size ovens, microwaves and most larger units have full-size fridge freezers to make them more suitable for long term guests. Comparatively, to force them into their shared dining

The Tongariro specifications are more for spacious warm comfortable relaxed units offering heaps of free extras for anglers such as rafts, bikes, smokehouse, guest laundry, rod racks, maps, books, advice, etc. plus free expert services of TRM’s fishing guide, Richard, for the full three days.

The major advantage for TRM is the location factor being within an easy waddle in waders to the most popular pools in NZ on the mighty Tongariro River. There is no way any lodge/B&B/mote/backpackers in Taupo can compete with that. Then add in the much better condition factor of Tongariro trout…

Finally, to complete this complex comparable venue analysis, consider the relative airport taxi service. The Taupo place has a Japanese people mover van for collecting and returning guests to the airport. They could never hope to compete with TRM’s classic vintage Bentley.
