Monday 18 January 2016 | Behind the scenes, Wildlife. Take a look behind the pest proof fence, meet a takahe and learn how to track kiwi at Wairakei Golf and Sanctuary.

There’s more than golf at Wairakei International Golf Course’s ‘front nine’.

This 180 ha property is now a stunning wildlife sanctuary, kiwi crèche and home to takahe thanks to its two metre high and 5 km long pest-proof fence. Take a look behind the fence with Greening Taupo, meet a takahe and learn how to track kiwi with a DOC Ranger. You may even be lucky enough to see a kiwi!
