Tongariro Fishing Guide’s report:

(Due to the large number, TRM have pruned Mike’s photos by about half to provide a typical representation of the average size and condition from the Tongariro in December… Thanks Mike.)

Tongariro Fishing Guide’s report

By Mike Hughes:

Between one thing and another its been a bit of a crazy few weeks so apologies for not plonking my bum in front of the computer for a while. As 2015 draws to a close its been a fantastic year on the Tongariro with some of the most consistent fishing of recent years.

Ok not every day has been a red letter day and not every fish is a gleaming fin perfect specimen but its been pretty damn good and overall the fish entering the river have been in great condition.

This has helped them recover quickly after spawning and although I haven’t caught as many big fish this year … what they lack in size they make up for in strength. Even some of the kelts will give you the run around and I don’t ever recall losing as many fish in previous years.

But despite all this there are still anglers who complain “there are no fish in the river.”

To illustrate this and to save you wasting your time I’ve uploaded a few pics taken along the Tongariro recently of fish that aren’t in the river!

I didn’t want to bore you stupid so I haven’t included all of them.
