Tongariro Alpine Crossing –
Latest images of snow conditions:
Just after a guest asked us about the Tongariro Crossing conditions for this weekend, we received the following update on the track conditions from Tongariro Expeditions – so I hope she is reading this:
There is no snow at all from the carpark to the top of the staircase
There is soft wet snow on the floor in south crater
The red crater ridge has a clear track all the way to the summit of the track at the top of the Red Crater no crampons required through either of these sections
There is a massive clear track down to the emerald lakes and they are starting to become visible too
Central crater floor through to the top of the valley still has snow, still no crampons required.
From the valley the track is then clear
Thank you to Tongariro Expeditions for the update.
If you are planning to tramp the Tongariro Crossing this summer season then you should also consider this far better alternative option away from all the crowding and delays… A much more memorable experience!
