Sometimes the ‘editorial staff’ (aka Pumpkin) at Tongariro River Motel get concerned that by responding to anglers’ complaints, the TRM Daily Reports appear too negative (? the truth often is!) elaborating on problems rather than promoting all the ‘positive’ issues?.
So firstly we reiterate the Tongariro River trout fishing is absolutely world class and we confess SWMBO probably does not emphasise that often enough. We trust you all can read between the lines and realise that.
But then we picked up the latest July issue of Fishing and Outdoors – the most comprehensive investigative newspaper available to anglers – see above. What relief – a breath of fresh air – to discover TRM are not alone in our comments and other responsible fishy publications are also expressing anglers real concerns.
Their motto says it all – FISH TODAY FOR TOMORROW. This newspaper should be compulsory reading for anyone interested in trout fishing habitats and maintaining NZ’s natural environment. i.e.
The following are just some of the headlines for freshwater anglers (of course there is much more for saltwater anglers) to indicate what anglers are concerned about in the latest July issue:
Taupo Trout Hatchery Issues
Genesis refuse to open Turangi tourist venture;
Trout Fishing in Winter
Fish need clean water
Genesis not interested in public safety
Change to Taupo fishing regulation process
Taupo & Turangi 1080 Meetings
Smith concedes rivers need clean-up
Fish & Game in disaster mode!
Farming Leaders Have Responsibility for Public’s Rivers
Then in the “Letters to the Editor” the headings include:
Tongariro River Concerns
What’s going on with the Tongariro River
Canterbury Trout Rivers going dry…
Government’s Double Whammy to Public over Pollution
Taxpaying Public – not Polluters – footing bill for pollution.
