Spring is sprung

The blossom tree in full bloom welcomes guests to the Olive Rabbit B&B on Taupahi Road.

While the erratic weather is trying to determine if spring has arrived yet, the blossom trees around Turangi cannot wait any longer. The melodious whistling yodeling and warbling from Tuis and Bell Birds (see photo below) from the wonderful intoxicating effects of a diet on blossoms and nectar from the early Kowhais positively signal the arrival of Spring in Turangi.

The seasonal changes are so much more enjoyable in Turangi.

The Tongariro River is now wadable again. The flood last weekend left a snow melt colour that has polished all the slippery stones to remove all the winter slime to provide safer easier wading.

The first inmate back this morning had landed nine fresh run Rainbows by 9am. All were caught close to the bank in three pools within close walking distance of TRM.

In the words of the late, great Spike Milligan –

Spring is sprung, the grass is riz
I wonder where the birdies is.
The birdies they is on the wing.
But that’s absurd,
Because the wing is on the bird.
