Last week we posted an update on Facebook, to advise TRM inmates that the first edition of the new book, Tongariro Skulduggery, was finally printed. It has now been dispatched – we are awaiting delivery right now…
Thank you for the enthusiastic responses asking where to buy a copy? As we are publishing it privately, it is only available at TRM. But we need to correct some misleading comments.
Some fishos might have been misled by believing the pre-publishing “hype”. Others were mistakenly attempting to compare this to other serious trout fishing books based on the Tongariro River from famous angler/authors – Draper, Hintz, Hickling, Mathews, etc. That would be an unfair comparison. They could never compete with TRM’s magnum opus. So the following explanation was posted.
“Perhaps it is time for a little confession? I am not pretending to be a writer or an author – just a struggling fisho. OK.
The book idea is just our way to help fund conservation efforts upriver. I am too old and weary to assist physically with clearing and planting etc. so this is just a fun way of encouraging TRM’s millions (?) of readers to contribute to such a worthy cause and reward them with some entertaining nonsense about the Tongariro River.
The book is seriously more of a “mockumentary”, to mock the loopy establishment locally – you know who we are referring to – while documenting some fishy stories.
To maximise the $% return to such a noble cause, it will only be available from TRM.
The next anticipated step are negotiations with both Weta Workshops and Disney competing for film rights. The plot is that good!
It is so hard to be humble…”
