Of course SWMBO claims this is just a coincidence – immediately after TRM Daily Reports criticise Turangi economic issues, we discover the Councillor resigns…
So why is this included in TRM’s Daily Report? (Perhaps the recent Tongariro River fishing has been so good we do not have to promote it.)
Before you switch off, if we care about the Tongariro environment at all, we all need to be concerned about the level of our political representation.
The choice of local politicians is very important to anglers to identify candidates who will promote and protect this wonderful asset – the Tongariro River. We need people who care. OK?
Councillor resigns over council inaction
June 14 2017
The Taupo District Council is facing a by-election in Turangi with ward councillor Zane Cozens confirming he is about to resign.
Councillor Zane Cozens said the council was operating “dysfunctionaly” and he has become fed up.
He confirmed to the Taupo Times this week that he would be resigning and gave members of the Turangi Tongariro Community Board the same message on Tuesday.
“Continually throwing your energy and common sense into a void has become a redundant exercise for me and I am truly exhausted by it all,” he said.
” It was a very hard decision but I feel I need to move my name away from the organisation.
“Asking hard questions on agenda items often finds us ignored and ostracised. I am not the first elected member to feel this way and I am sure I will not be the last”.
Cozens said Turangi is being overlooked by Taupo District Council and he expects this will continue.
“I love this town but I feel I can do more for it by no longer being a councillor,” he said.
“For more than three years I have had to fight for the Southern Lake to get some level of parity yet Turangi continues to suffer from minimal investment.”…….
