Practice day fishing at own pleasure (no competition)
6pm Drinks at local (informal at own cost) venue tbd.

Please check facebook group for updates on venue.

Friday 28 May

8am-9am Coffee at Creel, Taupahi Road. Safety briefing 830am and buddy up. Compulsory attendance or call in.

Safety and biosecurity briefing 9-330pm Fishing

9.30-12 session 1 for sports fly fishing points
1-3.30 session 2 for sports fly fishing points
(You can message back picture of scorecard if you can’t make it back for 4pm)

3.30-4pm Afternoon weigh in and point sheets given Tongariro River Motel weigh in area

5.30pm Bubbles and nibbles provided, at Sporting Life, Turangi Shop in the mall – talks and videos from Sporting Life team.

Dinner Close to takeaways following drinks/nibbles at own cost

Saturday 29 May

5.00 am Fishing commences (if you want to!) 930-12 session 1 for sports fly fishing points

1-3.30 session 2 for sports fly fishing points

(can message back picture of scorecard if you can’t make it back for 4pm) 3.30pm Fishing finishes

3.30-4pm Final weigh in and points sheets given in Spot prizes 6pm

  • Please don’t attend if you are unwell.
  • Please text in your location and/or fishing buddy for each day when you are on and off the river to Sarah 022 453 2040 who will keep a list of everyone on the river for safety purposes
  • Tournament organisers decision is final
  • Major prizes are biggest fish by length, average fish length and most points for catch and release.
  • One major prize per angler. If in the unlikely event you are eligible for 2, the second place will win the other major prize (after your choice of prize)
  • Tongariro River only
  • Wading belt must be worn
  • Clean, check and dry your gear if you are moving between rivers
  • Within the spirit of the social occasion can you please bring a small spot prize, wrapped. Can be fishing related or unrelated – bring something you would like to receive Catch and release/ points section;
    These will be Sports Fly Fishing (sffnz.org.nz) Rules. Summary:
  • Choose your best session each day. (you don’t need to fish both sessions each day)
  • You take a measuring tray and measure the length of each fish and mark and sign on score sheet
  • Any fish over 20 cm counts from tip of nose to end of tail, rounded up to the next cm.
  • Fish hooked only in mouth area (no foul hooks)
  • Winner will be anyone who scores most points for fish for one session each day
  • Scoring will follow sports fly fishing e.g. each eligible fish 100 points, then 20 points per centimetre above defined minimum size, rounded up to the next cm.
