Dwayne Reese leaves today after commencing his fly fishing career late last week as an absolute novice – see TRM Facebook story below…
After a couple of days he had his casting technique, mending, natural drift, etc. all sorted under the watchful eye of his new Tongariro fishing guide, Trev Hanover.
These two Rainbows were landed in his first few casts into the beautiful Kamahi Pool.
TRM Facebook last week featured the following in one of the lower river pools:
Another TRM inmate caught and released his first Tongariro Rainbow on his first trip to the river. He is Dwayne Reese from Sydney.
We would like to pretend it was all due to his lucky TRM hat but have to admit it was really the expert guiding from Trev. Hanover. Trev is from Taranaki (and still wears his Taranaki yellow & back bumble bee jersey) but now lives in Melbourne ‘temporarily’ while he schemes how to retire to Turangi to fish full time…. TRM suggested he should become a fishing guide?
More overseas tourists enjoying the Tongariro River trail walks are the Fredstig family from Sweden – Matteo (Dad) Asa (Mum) Tora and Nathan about to take Pumpkin for their compulsory walk along the Tongariro River to admire all the spawning runs of trout that are still patiently waiting for anglers to arrive.
