There is usually a good story behind fishing boat names…
This is Neil Hawes from Rotorua with his special fish hunting machine.
He tells us that the late Paddy O’Keefe tied a special woolly bugger – designed particularly for Lake Aniwhenua in the good ol’ days – which was so successful he copied it.
But to make it quicker and easier to tie he replaced the wound head with a red bead-head.
So his fishing mates decided that qualified him as a “Lazy Bugger”…
To complete the picture he now always wears a special “lucky” fishing hat that has an inscription on the back “Home of the Woolly Bugger”.
These famous fishing hats are collectors items and found all around the world wherever big fish congregate.
Image below of Neil and Gary from Hawkes Bay testing the success of their old fishing hats with a couple of ordinary local trout.
With his new hat he expects to catch the really BIG fish.
PS Due to unprecedented demand SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed is manager of everything at TRM) regrets She has run out of special TRM hats at the moment.
A new shipment has been ordered and should arrive by end of March.
