Kids holiday activities on Tongariro River

Today TRM show some more images of different holiday activities that attract so many visitors to Turangi Tongariro – starting at top with keen surfie – Nick Buchet from Wellington – tubing the rapids (?) and spotting for trout in the river.

It is so great to see all the city kids enjoying the great outdoors – a completely new environment for many away from their ipads and cell phones.  Most of the time I am not even sure what their electronic digital tablet thingy does?  Fortunately DOC have banned them on the river so the kids discover all these new secrets called trees and birds and bunnies and quail and even fish.  Amazing!

The trout centre kids days are always booked out so make sure you book ahead to avoid disappointment.  Next kids day is tomorrow:

Sunday 22nd January 2017

Discovering ducks nests is always fascinating for kids.  Look – don’t touch.  OK?

Kids biking can never start too young to teach them balance – good training for the bigger bikes or horses later.

Nature watching for native birds not usually seen in the city suburbs is always popular – watching the tuis antics as they feed on Kowhai nectar.  TRM have several unpaying guests – the tuis, rabbits and quail photos were all taken at TRM.  Even the covey of quail family image was taken outside of the reception.

The ‘supposedly’ rare Blue Ducks are seen throughout the Tongariro river Trail between TRM and Red Hut Bridge.  In some places they are almost a pest as they are so aggressive defending their patch.

The family rafting trips with RaftingNZ always get rave reviews from guests.  For a family activity this should be near the top of the list.  Even on wet windy days when other outdoor activities are cancelled the rafts are always running the rapids.

One of the most popular holiday activities from TRM is walking the savage guard dog brute – Pumpkin.  She needs the daily exercise so we are always relieved when guests can help.  She is limited to five walks per day.
