Irrefutable evidence…

TRM Daily Report advised of some BIG browns being landed throughout the river…

But – just in case you imagine we were hyping up the Tongariro (it does not need any hyping) – we know you need to see the evidence. So here is Scott Collins from Auckland with his catch – now in the smoker.

How big?  Average 6.8 pounds – They weighed in at 6.5, 6.8, 7.1 pounds. OK?

And where did he catch them I hear you ask?  In the lips?  In the river?  You know I cannot tell you when Scott is still here.  But I may have to do some research and test that spot more often.

And what was he using?  Nymphing gently from the bank as they were close in, but his own hand perfectly crafted flies do not have names – yet…  Scott says the flies hardly mattered as he was wearing his special lucky TRM hat…

You really need to be staying here to find out more. It is so easy when you have all the ingredients together.

These were three keepers out of a total of eight he landed in one and a half hours. He released all the fresh run Rainbows as he was targeting browns.  And there were plenty more seen where these came from.

If you have any doubts about the numbers of trout holding in the pools (?) drive down to Admirals Pool and have a squiz with ‘polaroid’ sun glasses.  The big browns try to hide in the depths and were not easily discernible but on Saturday morning I counted about 12 -15 other big trout in the TRB shallows patiently waiting for anglers.  I am sure there was no other reason for them to be there.

Such great fishing in March – you really should be here!
