How’s the fushin”? Five case studies

TRM Sign

SWMBO keeps receiving inquiries asking “How’s the fushin”?

Tongariro RainbowThis is often difficult to explain so we will rely on five ‘case studies’ as follows:

We try to use TRM Unit numbers to identify the culprits while maintaining their anonymity so they know who they are…

Case History No 1 – Unit 1:

IMG_8651 (1)Booked in for three nights and left Thursday morning.  Reports no hook-ups although others were seen hooking up and losing and landing trout down river.

Case History No 2 – Unit 6:

Two old (i.e. older than me) farmers who have been fishing here for over thirty years, etc.  Both disgusted with the lack of runs.  Will return in October (or more likely September after reading this…?).

Case History No 3 – Unit 2:

Been here since Sunday.  His best effort was arriving at one middle river pool which cannot be named as he is still here until Saturday.  He was disappointed to find another angler had just fished through it without any results.  But after walking so far he gave it a rest and worked his way through it.  Landed 12.  Apart from that he has been landing trout all through the river.  His advice is to move around a lot.  He should be guiding…

IMG_9601 (1)Case History No 4 – Unit 3:

Booked out Thursday morning after one day’s fishing down river yesterday.  Claims it was his best day’s fishing ever.  He hooked up first cast in three different pools.  He was very disappointed as due to a problem on the farm he had to leave a day early.

Case History No. 5: ?

He deserves to be named as he did not stay here.  Selwyn Hodder from Auckland Fly Fishing Club landed seven.  On arrival in one pool down river he flicked his line out, as you do when releasing more line to get revved up for the big cast, when his line snagged.  Then the snag started moving up river…  OK?  He was disappointed too as he was accompanied by his SWMBO so did not get much time in fishing as he had to go shopping.

IMG_5104So how does TRM’s SWMBO handle these inquiries?

She has a new cunning corporate strategy…

As TRM are booked out Thursday, Friday & Saturday, She refers only to Case Histories 1 & 2. and suggests the spawning runs are delayed, the fishing is slow and hard, so they would be wise to leave it for later in the season.

And they believe her too!

When we are not booked out She refers to Case Histories 3, 4, & 5 to get them here asap.

Seems reasonable.

That is why She is such a superb Manager at TRM.

Comparatively my management style is a little more laid back as Pumpkin and I work as a team…
