Wealth of fishery information available to all – Taupo Fishery Management is currently investigating options for delivering the entire back catalogue of Target Taupo magazine as an online resource for the angling community.
The last edition of Target Taupo #67 was a full colour A4 magazine published in October 2015, and marked the end of a series that began as a small black and white A5 booklet in July 1989.
Target Taupo was published three times a year and provided information about the management of the trout fishery including regular articles referencing the world leading fishery science programme – reports summarising data from spawning traps, angler surveys, acoustic monitoring and radio tagging. Other articles explored a diverse range of subjects such as the arrival of downriggers, catfish in lake Taupo, trialling Czech nymphing, the relationship between shags and trout, and the Tongariro roll cast – to name but a few!
Another piece of good news, the fishery management team are planning a new resource to replace Target Taupo. The updated electronic publication returns to original concept of Target Taupo – an informative newsletter. It will include familiar aspects such as articles covering fishery science and the work of the management team, as well as broader issues and community focussed items.
The newsletter will take its place among a range of communication tools, including social media, video clips, updated website, and more traditional media releases.
Look out for future announcements about the Target Taupo archive and the new online newsletter.
