After declining so many requests for accommodation as we were booked out over Easter, finding them alternative accommodation, etc. yesterday we received six cancellations!.  We blame Dan the weather man… 

SWMBO now has two large two bedroom units available all Easter!

Update – Within one minute one unit had been booked…

This morning’s Herald front page leads “Cyclone Cook is expected to unleash its full fury today across much of the North Island.  Torrential rain and winds up to 150km/h are forecast…MetService meteorologist Lisa Murray warned the immensely powerful storm would be the worst to hit NZ since 1968 when the Wahine disaster occurred….”

Yesterday when the rest of the country was reportedly being thrashed with rain and winds, meanwhile in Turangi the conditions here were still fine – see the image above of a happy Alan McCracken returning from fishing with his limit bag taken about 11 am yesterday.  Note his wet weather gear.  The road was still dry!  Overcast conditions then turned into light rain in the afternoon.  No wind.  Perfect for fly fishing.  Some more rain must have fallen in the hills as indicated by the flow chart for the Tongariro River but has recovered overnight.  At the moment outside it is damp and misty, no wind, mild temperatures, overcast, nothing like that claimed by TV.  The Tongariro River has lots of colour and is very fishable.  Alan reports he could see trout from the Koura Street bridge.  So there you are…
