Grant Insley from Auckland donating a huge heap of fly fishing gear for local kids.
Grant was keen to donate to help support the initiative of Didymo Dave (needs no introduction) and Doug Stevens (nzfishing.com) to help fit out worthy local kids who have to earn their stripes helping Dave on various conservation tasks around the Taupo rivers.
So many other anglers have helped to tidy up the back of their garage by donating their surplus old gear to such a good cause.
This was by far the most generous and biggest haul we have received so far including four rods and numerous reels, four sets of waders (5mm neoprene chest waders, breathable waders, thigh waders, etc.), an assortment of wading jackets, landing nets, stripping basket, vests, parkas, etc. Dave will need to bring his trailer to collect.
Some lucky kids are going to have an early Christmas on this. This gear became surplus when Grant discovered to his horror that the waders that fitted perfectly last season must have shrunk (?) and did not fit any longer. So we even have a choice of shapes and sizes.
Many thanks 8THEB8 – you really are Dave’s hero too.
