Anglers compare Fish & Game maps and services

Yesterday the TRM Daily Report provided details of DOCs new map for the entire Taupo Fishery, which was subject to complaints from anglers with negative comments  – the usual fishos responses…   They are so concerned and passionate about the Taupo fishery.

So today we compare what Fish & Game offer their licence holders.  Consider the difference in scale – DOC’s map covers over 100km.  Compare to the brochure for the nearby Ruapehu F&G region together with detailed info of 8 rivers and dams they even provide maps of local farms alongside their river with farmers’ phone numbers available to check on access – see below.  How good is that?  Full marks to the Taranaki Fish & Game Region!

Or compare the following effort to encourage fly fishing by F&G in Otago –

Hi Guys – Fish and Game Otago are running the following introduction to fly fishing event.  The Otago Fish & Game Council will be running a FREE novice adult beginner fishing class before the start of the 2017/18 fishing season. The things that will be covered are licences, regulations, species of fish, rods, bait, knots, where to go etc. Then there will be a field trip to the Southern Reservoir to try your luck at catching a fish for dinner.

Round up a group or bring your partners along for the fun!

Pre-registration is required (maximum of 12 people per class) so if you are interested please contact Steven Dixon – Ph 021 190 0711 or s.dixon@fish-game.org.nz before the 4th of September 2017.

Dates: Thursday 7th September (Theory Class 1) – 6.30pm – 8.30pm held at the Otago Fish & Game Council office, Cnr Hanover & Harrow St, Dunedin.
Friday 8th September (Theory Class 2) – 6.30pm – 8.30pm held at the Otago Fish & Game Council office, Cnr Hanover & Harrow St, Dunedin.
Saturday 9th September Field trip (both classes) 3pm – 4.30pm at the Southern Reservoir

All the fishing equipment (rods and lures) will be provided.

Cheers
Steve

Below are some of  F&G maps/brochures for the rest of the North Island.

There are more for the South Island – see on right>>>.

These have been prepared by fishermen for fishermen with everything anglers needs to know about the regional regulations and where the best access points are and other useful local info.

Taupo region is so fortunate with some of NZ’s best and most popular trout fishing rivers – in addition to the Tongariro are Hinemaiaia, Tauranga-Taupo, Waitahanui, etc. plus a real trophy lake at Otamangakau, etc. but sadly the Taupo fishery managers provide inadequate information for their licence holders or to encourage visiting tourist anglers.
