Fishing & Outdoors newspaper

Plates04Recommended  reading:

Specially for those inmates who were curious about the outcome of TRM’s ‘Signs War’ (readers obviously enjoy a local David v’s Goliath struggle aka  Tongariro River Motel v’s Taupo Council), make sure you read a copy of “Fishing & Outdoors” February edition – available free in all good sports shops.

Excellent entertainment – compulsory study for anglers and anyone else – as they discuss all the meaty controversial issues so often overlooked by the daily papers.

TRM 42Good in-depth investigative journalism.

Their latest issue covers such topics as Carp Farming at Taupo (approved despite the risks?), Recreational Fishing Parks (- a fizzer?), clean water issues, and full coverage of TRM’s local battle headed up:

“Taupo Council – small mindedness”.

For those readers unfamiliar with TRM’s signs war, the Council have issued an Infringement notice to fine TRM $300 for refreshing signs welcoming tourists to Turangi?  How ridiculous is that?

The last six years progression of the changing signs on right illustrate how TRM have improved the signage to welcome tourists, only to be attacked and fined by Council…  Unbelievable control freaks?

IMG_8835The last para in the “Fishing & Outdoors” article sums it up:

“The bureaucrats ensure life never gets boring in Turangi.  At least they keep the tourists and visitors entertained with their ineptitude.  Turangi is the Trout Fishing Capital of the World and always has been and always will be for ever.  Why does the GoTongariro Chairman – responsible for economic development in Turangi along with the Council – want to get this sign removed.   It makes no sense at all – as an existing sign it is a non issue and is creating so much positive exposure for the town – it’s about time the council backed up positive enterprise that benefits the community as a whole – rather than the negative few!

IMG_1948The Fishing & Outdoors paper covers other interesting fishy matters as well, such as the following:

The Haircut.

A teenage boy had just passed his driving test and inquired of his fatheras to whether they could discuss the use of his car.His father said he’d make a deal with his son:  “You bring your grades up from C to B average, study your bible, and get your hair cut.  Then we’ll talk about the car.”  The boy thought about that for a moment, decided he’d settle for theoffer and they agreed on it.  After about six weeks his father said, “Son, you’ve brought your grades up and I’ve observed that you have been studying your bible but I’m disappointed you haven’t had your hair cut”.  The boy said “You know Dad, I’ve been thinking about that, and I’ve noticed in my studies of the Bible that Samson had long hair, John the Baptist had long hair, Moses had long hair, and there’s even strong evidence that Jesus has long hair”.

You’re going to love Dad’s reply.

“Did you happen to notice they walked everywhere?”
