42nd Traverse closed

RANGER OFFICAL NOTICE:

Tongariro Forest

There is a damaged culvert half way along the 42 Traverse. 4WD access is not possible all the way through. If hunting please only 4WD to safe distance and then walk. Please consider an alternative location for long 4WD adventures.

Mountain Bikers and Hikers can still get through.

More information will be posted tomorrow about the repair timeframes.

Please share this with your family and friends who love 4 Wheel Driving on the 42 Traverse and may have planned to come down this weekend.

That is the official notice but anglers should not be too discouraged.

This “42nd Traverse” is used for access to the upper W(h?)anganui River for wilderness fishing.  There are other 4WD access tracks to the river although these are not without difficulty which add to the challenge.  The first step for anglers wanting to explore this region is to contact Taupo Quads – see images below.  They know all the tracks…
