We were trying to feature the Turangi Golf Course on TRM.
But this is what happens when I ask another inmate guests for any scenic photos of the golf course…

They returned with no photos of the course, but… Everyone who has played there will remember the giant Fantail carving of the tree stump on the 5th hole.
The golfer is Bruce Hawke, who returned to his favourite holiday town, Turangi, for a few days of golf and trout fishing. He is an escaped teacher from Orewa College – I bet all the kids will recognise him. He was delighted to discover some of his father’s artwork on display at TRM.

The local artist and carver is now revealed as David Hawke, retired in Turangi. He is well recognised for his other carved pumice artwork on display at the Pihanga Art Shop in the Turangi Mall.

So the report that started out as a fishing update developed into a golf course report and then morphed into a Turangi Arts & Crafts shop review of David Hawke. We have not asked permission, although I am sure the shop will appreciate being featured.
