Excessive lake levels causing more erosion

From TRM facebook:

EROSION WARNING……..over the past few weeks there has been significant erosion at the Waitahanui River mouth. The carpark on the southern side is most affected. After today’s westerly winds there is now only about a foot of grass between the Lake n the carpark. If the winds continue through the night there is a reasonable chance the north western corner of the carpark could suffer erosion n become unsafe. Janice Wall, Ross Baker, Shirley Fraser can you please share this so no one gets injured. Thanx

Shirley Fraser Ok..this has been a worry for weeks..both carparks are under risk of collapsing. .I think some preventive work needs to be done before it costs $1000’s !! Shared.

Roy Mattock Looks like the lake is over it’s captivity never seen it at this height. Maybe it’s since the computers took over the Waikato bridge no one to keep an eye on the lake levels.

Ngahuia Tahau Layze check this out

Janice Wall Omg Didimo, what are we going to do. Not good for both car 🚗 parks and water levels are rising. I have shared on our community page.
Ngahuia Tahau Tell them to open the flood gate and let some water down waikato. .. a simple fix.. but the government will make more money from the power than the cost of a car park or two

Chŕistine Anne Kidwell omg looks like mother nature’s hard there as well.

Roy Mattock Sure mighty river power can help pay for this too

Gareth Green John Ridd – can we look at this tomorrow please?

Janice Wall Yes please Gareth

Didymo Dave Some change since then!

Debbie Jackson Rawhiti Didymo Dave yeah I was shocked to see the change when we drove past… you should see around motutere point that’s not look great either

Ross BakerFor many years the lake has been too high which is also the cause of all the flood damage to the lower Tongariro. The answer is so simple – lower the lake!

Paul Reeve I thought that ugly pile of rocks they put out there just off the car park was supposed to stop erosion happening??

Hoki Tawa i thought that too…

HarataKarauria Te Ahinaariki Biddle-Wall Let it be I recon. If the car parks end up in the lake then it does. Let nature take its course. The rock wall put out on the lake has already stuffed the Inanga up so hopefully this might help them little buggers.
