Biking is sooooo popular…

IMG_6784TRM’s famous biking journalist, Pippa Brown, checking out another Taupo bike trail – she was a little conspicuous amongst all the pros on a TRM hire bike.

AFTR Dated PosterAs I send this by 8 am on a Saturday morning, all of TRM’s bikes, the entire fleet are out on the Tongariro River Trail.  So many inmates have never been on a bike since school days.  It is inspiring to see them after after a wobbly start they return as confident bikers and already converted.

TRM bikes are specially designed as ‘touring’ bikes (for the Otago Rail Trail) with a much more relaxed and comfortable upright riding position, so the riders can admire the scenery as they pedal along the river trails.

Did you know TRM’s custom designed bikes featured on TV last year for converting them to anglers’ transport to carry rod tubes etc. up the Tongariro River Trails.

SWMBO has ordered more bikes for 2016 to try to keep up with the demand.

Turangi weather forecasts???

IMG_4305SWMBO warned them they were taking a risk as the usual misleading TV forecast was for rain on Friday….  Everyone involved in anything touristy in Turangi get so tired of their nonsense reports.  TRM was pleased to see what a local shuttle bus operator for the Tongariro Crossing has to say last week…  SWMBO supports them.

“Well its another cancelled day tomorrow due to the forecast as per attached, if the weather man gets it wrong again we will be taking recommendations and voting as to where we should park our big 50 seater coach, I’m voting to park it right up his jacksy where the sun don’t shine. Baring teeth smile”

and again…

“well all I can say is that the weather man is an arse,  We have all missed the last couple of days on the track due to his very bad forecasting and issuing weather severe warnings but in reality it is a primo day up there.”

FREE EVENT…

IMG_3913Tongariro River Motel anglers may be interested in a “DEMO EVENT” this Saturday, between 2 & 5 pm, on Waipapa Reserve (by the coffee cart by the bridge) Turangi – seee photo on right…

THIS IS A FREE EVENT.

Come and cast a huge collection of LOOP rods. They will have a fun casting course set-up, Loop pro team members to chat to and offer free casting tips and spot prizes.

IRONMAN

Meanwhile, as you are relaxing and enjoying your leisurely morning coffee, just have a thought for all those taking part in the Nutrigrain Ironman which started at 6.45 am this morning.  It includes a 3.8 km lake swim as a warm up, a 180 km bike ride (to Reporoa and back twice) and finishing with a 42 km run between Tongariro Domain and Four Mile Bay.  I was tempted to enter SWMBO but did not have the courage.  For the 18th Ironman over 1350 athletes from 51 countries (including 41 local athletes) is one of the most popular endurance races in the world.  For info on road closures go to:  www.taupo.govt.nz
