Anglers’ access swing bridges over the Tongariro River have served the needs of anglers and other recreational users for seven decades. The ravages of time have taken a toll, and they now need some serious attention.
Due to their ageing design with limited structural redundancy, a decision has been made to replace the Major Jones Bridge and the Red Hut Bridge. Visitor safety in the event of a component failure was a key consideration.
More information about the structure, timelines and replacement plans will be released in DOC’s newsletter closer to Christmas.
