Tongariro River Motel therapy programmes

Congratulations to everyone who contributed to stop the carp farm proposal.  Take a bow!

What a good illustration of the immense power of the people over bureaucracy – using social media.

So now TRM can get back to other business… normal transmission resumes.

IMG_4558At TRM (Tongariro River Motel) so many fishy inmates have benefited from our unique local therapy programme.

Sometimes we wish we could tell you more  details but it is a bit delicate to write all about, without revealing and/or embarrassing the inmates.

The common theme of these one-on-one therapy sessions is their huge success.

Many of you have read TRM go on about it so often so it is refreshing to get another opinion.

Now TRM can offer added our unique type of therapy to rejuvenate anglers and other guests to feel younger in spirit and more in touch with their surroundings.

IMG_4573TRM’s therapy programme is called “Rent a friend”…  Her name is Hannah.  OK?

TRM’s unique  programme was originally tested by Kiki and the successful results were quite outstanding.

Regardless of the activity prospective ‘patients’ choose, in nature’s garden (aka the Tongariro National Park) Hannah will restore your faith in human nature with her bubbling positive attitude.

FLY FISHING THERAPY

Whakamoenga Point walk 06(The following ‘blog’ is from the North Carolina website therapy based just on fly fishing.)

Believed by many to be its own form of therapy, the gentle art of fly fishing requires a great deal of patience, focus, and skill.

Though it takes time to master this sport, for individuals in wilderness rehab, learning to delay gratification and work toward a long-term goal are important tools for recovery.

image1Nowhere are the natural and logical consequences of one’s actions more clear than fishing on a lake or stream. If your technique is poor or you use the wrong equipment, you won’t catch a fish. But with guidance and determination, clients experience the immediate rewards of honing a new skill (catching a fish) and feel proud of their successes.

IMG_4560A day on the water also provides a sense of freedom and emotional release. Fly fishing presents an opportunity for our clients to enjoy a bit of solitude and meditate on the beauty of the North Carolina wilderness, removed from any worries that may be weighing on them while in rehab.

For many clients at Four Circles, the fly fishing expeditions have been a highlight of their wilderness rehab experience….

“Fly fishing has become my new drug of choice. I had one of the best times ever, and can’t wait to go home and get my own rod. It was amazing I had that much fun sober – it really opened my eyes a lot. I had just as big of a rush fly fishing as I did using.”

IMG_0255“We really enjoyed fly fishing. The experience was a great way to remind ourselves that we can have fun without drugs and it also teaches patience, determination, and a new skill.”

“The fly fishing was the best part. It really helps me to know I can have fun being sober.”

Other similar therapy ‘programmes’ are available, such as Healing Waters.

Healing Waters

Lake Rotopounamu - 23At Healing Rivers, they practice a form of experiential therapy.  They combine psychotherapy with the sport of fly fishing.  Therapeutic techniques include the use of metaphors, cognitive-behavioral approaches and more traditional therapy formats. The use of the fly rod is a unique tool for healing as is the stream environment.

HANNAH’S PROGRAMMES:

P1030073But at TRM all that is simplified in Hannah’s wide choice of therapy programmes.

Under her guidance and infectious enthusiasm guests can achieve new heights of personal achievement and overcome challenges you never thought possible.

i.e.  Better than the Tongariro Crossing which is far too crowded!  Everyone has done that.

So what about a guided ascent of the highest mountain in the North Island – Mt. Ruapehu?

IMG_6051With Hannah leading you will be surprised, you can do it.  She has already climbed to the summit about ten times (and snow boarded back down.  Her video will be available on TRM soon).

Just a recreational day out with her enjoying adventures in such a wide variety of physical pursuits such as fly fishing, scenic walks, mountain tramping, river rafting, trail biking, river and lake canoeing, snow boarding, long walks to waterfalls or just to have fun surrounded by nature’s beauty, whatever?

A BIG day out with Hannah is TRM’s strongly recommended most successful therapy to achieve personal satisfaction and a smile of utter contentment.

TRM’s therapy programmes are completely versatile, geared for all ages and all levels of ability.  To qualify you do need to be booked in at TRM on weekends.

IMG_8761There is such a great choice of adventure activities around Turangi.

As summer draws to a close the winter programme kicks in with more activities revolving around the snow at Whakapapa or Turoa.  She is familiar with them all.

Hannah’s therapy can even overcome all lethargic feelings of old age.

Quite remarkable really.
