This is a most unusual post. For your ANZAC weekend reading, TRM are recommending another competing fishing retreat!

John’s photo says it all. At TRM, we often get asked about other trout fishing lodges or similar affordable experiences available that portray all that is best about trout fishing in NZ. I am sure you understand SWMBO hates sending guests away, but this venue should be at the top of every trout angler’s list, just below TRM, of course.
John from West Island has been a regular TRM junkie, but now always adds a couple of days to head further south to the Rangitikei River for a fishing raft trip as part of his annual Tongariro holiday. In fact, I think he fits us in around the raft trip booking.
Even at the risk of losing inmates, John is one of many whom we have recommended for this other river. So many have returned to thank us for the recommendation, so we need to pass it on. Check it out.

John wrote a brief report on his most recent raft trip:
Hi Ross
You asked me for feedback on my February trip with Steve Mattock of Tarata Fishaway.
I have attached a photo of a beautiful rainbow held by Steve.
We drifted down a lovely stretch of the Rangitikei, casting dry flies close to the bank and stopping to fish nymphs in likely spots. I caught a stonker of a brown trout and several more rainbows.
Apart from a couple of other anglers on the bank at the start, we didn’t see any other people.
This was my third trip with Tarata, and I will be back for more.
Steve’s daughter, Mikayla, also operates the rafts. They both know the river intimately and they know where fish are likely to be found.
This is a beautiful river and the Mattocks have access to several different sections. If you go with them, you will have one of the best fly fishing experiences of your life.
John

Our photos could never do it justice. Just a great place to combine stunning river scenery with trout fishing with wonderful hosts. Highly recommended.

Above is another TRM inmate aka American pirate, who took over the rowing as well.
