New Bucket List map…

Last chance for any anglers wanting to contribute to the revised updated bucket list map. The original was produced in 2012, the last revised map sold out in 2017, so it is time for the revised 2023 map.

The flood caused chaos along the Tongariro River last August and filled in many of the fishing pools and moved wading access spots. The previous maps – such as below – are now obsolete. Even worse, the information on the Pool Ratings Chart is now misleading. Many pools have changed significantly. An example is the old Bridge Pool – previously the most popular trout fishing pool in NZ. Now the reliability factor will plummet from 9 down to ? The previously very reliable bypass in front of the Tongariro Lodge has almost dried up. etc…..

Ditto with many other famous pools that have moved up and down the river or disappeared after the flood and need updating. All the other relevant information needs updating since the last reprint. Harry’s photo needs to change as well to match the road sign below…

The “Welcome to Turangi” sign on the corner of SH1 and Piri Road.

If there is anything you would like to add or need to make sure we have not missed, then please email: ross@tongarirorivermotel.co.nz We have just had a meeting with the map guy (Jim’s Cartography Services) who is liaising with the Creel fishing guide, Jason Bethune, to confirm the preliminary revised draft layout etc. so we can still add any new info…

Many thanks in anticipation.
