What a great photo!
This is what school holidays are all about. Or supposed to be when the weather allows. This is also for all those who phoned today to check on the conditions…
After a very wet couple of miserable days, as evidenced by severe flooding further north, the Tongariro River had quickly retreated to around 30 cumecs and recovered from being coloured by pumice silt, providing ideal conditions for those with determination and casting skills.
Congratulations to Will Dreyer, who was patiently coached by his grandfather, long-time TRM guest, John Dreyer from West Island. After waiting for the flooded river to return to normal flows, he landed this cracker early run Brown trout in the upper Tongariro today.
TRM had John and Will in for the oriental banquet the other night, together with eight other inmates who were restless waiting for the weather to improve. Will’s youthful enthusiasm was apparent then. It is so encouraging for so many older anglers to see the challenges and thrills of fly fishing being passed on to the next generation.
