SWMBO suggested to Brenda she cannot take this trailer display to Auckland as it would be confiscated for emergency housing?  What a cute concept to get kids (and older kids too) attention.

This is where DOC fill such an outstanding educational role increasing awareness of Didymo and other water pests.  10/10…

Their delightful DOC organiser to increase public awareness, Brenda Lawson, called in to TRM to get approval for new ‘temporary’ signage to go on SH1. boundary fence.

We did not dare reveal the drama from Council ‘signs police’ last time we decided to refresh our signage.  After six months TRM are still waiting for Taupo Council to apologise and withdraw their $300 fine – for replacing the “Welcome to Turangi” sign.

When we ‘refresh’ or ‘update’ signage in Turangi the Taupo compliance team from Head Office get very spooky and look for any way to use the opportunity to abuse their authority to threaten and squeeze rate payers.

In TRM’s case the words on the sign were exactly the same as the original x-Council sign in the image below, but the size of the sign was increased to match the adjoining RaftingNZ sign.  That is a criminal no-no.  How ridiculous!  They fined TRM the day after the sign went up.  It was even more extraordinary when it was Council’s initiative to remove the original sign to refresh it with the new Council logo.  I think TRM were ‘set up’?

Compare that to the same time last December when long term overseas fishing guests (Hi Jim) who was here for four months rightly complained about a rooster crowing next door every morning around 4 am.  The same compliance team took five weeks and three visits to address that problem.

But what’s the bet they would dare protest or mix it with Brenda…

As you can see the DIDYMO signs are only temporary.  The existing two signs have only been there for the last ten years…
